I'll begin by saying that this might be my longest post ever.
If you know me well, then you will understand the sheer excitement behind what I'm about to share with you.
Remember how I told you that Art Basel week is the BEST in Miami? Well, if there were any doubt about that before it is now completely resolved. Why, you ask? Well .... I met my idol yesterday while strolling through one of the many amazing art exhibits on the beach. Who, you ask?
Fran Drescher!! The Nanny!!
We were walking through the exhibits and minding our own business when I glanced over and thought I spotted Franny. Keep in mind that less than a year ago I told Ben that there are maybe two people in the world who would cause me to be starstruck, Fran Drescher and Larry David. In the same breath, I also told Ben that I would give anything to meet her. Yes, I watched The Nanny, but long after it was off the air (gotta love Lifetime re-runs) and even read her book, Cancer Schmancer (Thanks, Rach - best present EVER!). So, I spotted her and freaked out ... I was like, "Is it or isn't it?"; I couldn't tell - she was much shorter than I would have ever imagined and I had just suddenly fallen victim to that "oh-my-gosh-i-just-saw-my-idol" shock. I began to follow behind her for a bit to try and confirm my suspicions ... I finally decided that, at worse, I would say something to her only to realize that it wasn't the Nanny, only an amazing lookalike, and she prob gets it all the time, so I tapped her on her back and said, "Fran?"
She turned around, surely expecting to know me since I called her Fran and all, and looked a little confused when she didn't recognize my face. I said, "Oh, you don't know me, but I have to tell you that I am your biggest fan!" (original line, huh?) ... I went on to say, "My fiance can attest this, I have read your book and I have every episode of the Nanny on DVD" (She is also, btw, incredible in Spinal Tap!) More than anything, I really respect and admire her work for cancer research and women's health care - it's even rumored that she wants to take Hilary Clinton's seat on the Senate! She's awesome and she's using her celeb for good ... but I digress ...
So ... Ben walks up at this moment since I brought him into the convo and said, "Yes, I can confirm that we still watch the Nanny DVDs" (I think he may have said this with a little sarcasm, but whatever!) .... At this point, my leg was shaking - I have never met anyone that literally made me shake! I was so nervous. She put out her hand and kindly said, "What's your name?" I told her and apologized for bothering her - honestly, I normally would never do that. I literally bumped into Brooke Hogan walking out of the gym tonight and didn't notice until I overheard someone say, "That was Brooke Hogan..." but Fran Drescher?!?! OMG!
Sadly, I didn't get a pic. The convention staff checked our purses at the door and made us check our cameras (much to the relief of the celebs, I'm sure) ... but what about my photo opp?!?! I was sooooo sad. After our brief exchange, I walked away in awe - I think she might have been a bit flattered, I mean, as amazing as I think she is, I realize that not many people are knocking down the doors to have a brief convo with Fran Drescher. She was really sweet and I even overheard a, "Wow, that was sweet" as I walked away.
It's official: I can now die a happy woman.
Now - as far as the Cape is concerned - we had such an amazing time. We had an early letdown when we discovered that Adam, Alison and Charlie couldn't come because Charlie was sick and they didn't want to risk flying with him, but thanks to Skype we didn't miss a beat.
Here's a snapshot from my makeup trial with the fabulous Katrina Hess:
The Saturday after Thanksgiving we had a fam party with all the Coppelmans and it was fabulous. Julia and Anna got their butts kicked in Pictionary! Rematch next time, girls! We also got to look through Ken and Jill's wedding album (the Cape wedding that we went to in September) and they were gorgeous. We always have such a wonderful time with them. I got a snapshot with Uncle Jon (the one who will officiate our wedding ceremony) with the Ka-bob.

This past Fri we went to Gen Art Miami - it was the best party of the week. It was held at Charcoal Studios: http://www.charcoalstudio.com/gallery.php - YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE PHOTO GALLERY. This space is amazing. It's a warehouse that was converted into a home, complete with an indoor pool, car lift and mobile kitchen.
I've never seen anything like it; it was packed with people. I snapped a shot of the models that were working the party - they were propped up behind the bar lookin' pretty and dressed in character; they looked just like Haley Mills in the first making of "The Parent Trap."
It was an amazing party - absolutely incredible. We got home really late and I needed to prepare myself to rally for the next morning when I would accompany Caroline to shop for wedding dresses. She looked absolutely stunning and ended up finding the perfect dress. I snapped a shot of her signing the receipt for her deposit - it was such an honor to be with her while making such a big decision. Neil is going to flip when he sees how amazing she looks!
Tonight we wrapped up our nonstop social obs to visit our good friend, Mike, at his premier of the Wizard of Oz inspired exhibit at the Miami Children's Museum (he's the creative director). It was amazing and one of my fave parts was that many famous shoe designers (Prada, Manolo Blahnik, etc.) designed their own versions of Dorothy's Ruby Red Slipper - Mike is pictured here in front of some of the snappy zapatos.
We're exhausted - and it's only Monday. But, that does it - the past two weeks in a nutshell. I would try and wrap this up with something really snappy and clever but I'm too tired ;) Forgive me ... there will be much more to come this weekend and over Christmas (holidays and Mom's engagement party).
I am so excited for you! I'm sure Fran felt honored that you would not only know her from the Nanny, but you also knew so much about her efforts on behalf of women everywhere. And p.s. your make-up is beaaauooootiful- not that you need a stitch.
Can't wait to see you. Soon, my love. Soon.
