I started this day with the best of intentions - but today has quickly become rut central. I'm feeling a little down today - perhaps a case of the Mondays again? I feel like this "case of the Mondays" thing is becoming a reoccurring theme here .... maybe I should start my week on Tuesdays from now on. Wait - I just realized that this is Tuesday. Oh boy.
Ben's parents are arriving on Thursday and we've been hard at work trying to get everything together before they get here. And true to B&L fashion, we waited to the last minute to begin painting our second bedroom (this has been in the plans for some time now) - but I'm glad that we finally have an excuse to hurry it up and finish the job. After we finish the second bedroom I will be able to post the final pictures of la casa - we've completed the yard and have finally begun to address the little things that we've been putting off for ages. It's finally starting to come together, and only 4 months after we moved in!
This weekend was full of surprises and great friends (old and new). I was delighted on Saturday to meet up with my dear friend from college, Emily Pfeifer. She was here on business but, of course, flew in a day early to catch some rays and spend some time with yours truly. It was a blast. Being around Emily reminded me of how much I miss my friends from home. It was great to see her (we realized it had been almost four years - am I getting old or what?)!
On Sat evening, me, Ben, Steph, Maggie and Gabe went to Shakespeare in the park (a performance of Macbeth) ... we ventured to Flamingo park with our blankets, candles and picnic fare (exotic cheeses, wines and bites) with the anticipation of doing something new and exciting on the beach. Unfortunately the sound system was horrible and we weren't really able to figure out if the performance was that of a middle-school talent show or some awful joke that we weren't in on. In any case, it was an experience. That's all I have to say about that :)
After the show we stopped by the house and popped open a magnum vintage bottle of Dom Perignon (thank you, Steph!) from 1980 - this bottle was older than me. We weren't really sure what we were celebrating, so we settled on the trusty old, "To great friends" toast. Just as we were finishing the bottle, Emily came by the house and, as she arrived, so did about 20 of our friends...
Apparently we were to have an impromptu fiesta that we didn't even know about, but there was a bigger surprise in store: the unexpected arrival of our good friend, Hemley. As 20 of our friends unexpectedly showed up at our door, Hemley slowly emerged from the sea of faces. We screamed in excitement ... and soon realized that we should have waited to pop open the champagne! Hemley (who we have mentioned on the blog before) has been on a spiritual journey in India for the past four months working with Mother Theresa's mission (among many other things). He was just glowing - we're so proud of him and happy to have him back; it was as though we hadn't missed a beat. We're so pumped to have him back in the mix. (You might remember him from the yoga picture as we were moving out of our apartment in September?)
Oh ... and at about 1 a.m. during the party, Ben, who was clearly feeling quite resourceful, brought out the drill (I am sure our neighbors LOVE us) to drill holes in our coconuts and fill them halfway with rum. Betcha never had a pina colada like that before?! By 3:30 a.m. the house was clear - the exact time to catch an episode of Forensic Files on a TruTv (formerly Court TV) marathon. PERFECT ending to a perfect day.
We wrapped up the busy weekend with a 6-HOUR trip to Ikea ... I'm telling you, stay out of that place! You will get sucked in. Guaranteed.
I will upload pics from the weekend tomorrow (don't have my cammy with me) ....
Now, I shall wrap up this random post and attempt to do something productive .... I guess I'm going to take a stab at coat #2 of paint in the 2nd bedroom .... any painters out there who care to join?
OMFG. I completely forgot about the drill and the coconuts. Now I remember Ben coming in and out of the house with the drill and me thinking nothing of it. I drank that shit though!!! Hahaha. SUCH a fun night!

Sounds like you had a wild weekend! I agree that Mondays are tough. I would skip them altogether if given the choice. I love you and miss you, Laurina.
